A little bit about what drives me
Throughout my life three themes always seem to be present. The first one is people, it fascinates me what makes people behave like they do and why, which led me to study psychology at the University of Amsterdam. From this experience grew the belief that we can live better lives if we learn how to take preventative care of our mental health, that is, even before anything is wrong. So that’s what I’m trying to do through my work. Not only to teach myself, but others as well.
Fascinating as that is for me, I always felt like something was missing, which brings me to the second theme: Creativity. Whether it’s through music, I briefly studied music before switching to psychology, writing, or the visual arts, throughout my life I was busy creating. So I asked myself how to include that in my mission to teach people to take better care of their mental health. The solution: make videos about it.
Although that is a great solution, my ADHD brain also needs something to keep the exploration fun and exciting. Then again, who doesn’t want that journey to be more pleasant? ADHD or not. Anyway… That’s where the third theme comes in: Motorcycles. From a young age I couldn’t keep my eyes from my father sitting in the driver’s seat of the family car dreaming about driving a car myself one day. And after sitting on the back of my uncles motorcycle when I was young another spark was ignited. It was inevitable, I had to get my motorcycle license and when I was 23 I finally got it. Now, years later, I realise that motorcycling is the perfect vehicle for exploring mental health. How? You’ll have to watch my videos.
So now I’m combining the three recurring themes in my life, people, creativity and motorcycling, to learn and teach about mental health. While trying to live my best life, I hope I can help you live your best life as well.
